Budgeting Apps and Resources
Below is a list of budgeting apps either we’ve tried, were recommended by others, or get good reviews online. The first 2 are options that I’m personally using myself. Watch my overview video “Budgeting Apps and Spreadsheets Overview” to learn more. Any of the larger budgeting app companies have countless Youtube reviews as well so no shortage of information out there on any options you may be considering. It often comes down to preference and what features are most important to you. Enjoy!

Savvy Simpsons - For you spreadsheeters this couple created a number of different spreadsheets for budgeting. Sheets for normal everyday life, to travel planning, net worth tracking, zero based budgeting, goal tracking and more. I love spreadsheets and these are easy to use and in an overall simple format. Both excel sheets and google sheets come with the purchase. See my overview in the video above click on the Header. CLICK on the LINK below to purchase.

Other Recommended Options with Good Reviews and Features
Empower - Formerly Personal Capital, leans a bit more towards the investing side. More of a financial services company with a budgeting app as their front end free to use product. The budgeting portion isn’t as advanced as Monarch imo but it’s decent.
You Need a Budget - I’ve heard a number of our clients have used this and it gets good overall reviews online. Its set up is for zero based budgeting, common amongst most of the budgeting apps. Like others you can link accounts to import transactions. Has the option to share a subscription with household members like Monarch and per reviews has education video resources as well. Does charge per month or annually.
Tiller HQ - For advanced spreadsheeters this might be a good fit. Can link accounts to the spreadsheets which allow for more live updates. Per reviews and their website there is significant customization available as well. There is more of a learning curve especially if one isn’t as adept with spreadsheets.
Rocket Money - Similar to Monarch, Empower, YNAB and others. Has a free version with very limited customization and a premium plan that comes with a 7 day free trial that is considerably more robust. They have a unique service with their premium service where they help monitor and cancel subscriptions or provide directions to simply cancel them. Supposedly they will help negotiate certain bills like internet or phone plans and split the savings with you. Though I have a service for that with other features if you want to Check out my cash Flow Infusion video.
Others that have either decent reviews or mentioned in the group
- Good Budget
- EveryDollar
- HoneyDew
- Simplifi
